A Repost: Our Conversation with Joy Jones

With Hosts Elizabeth Bruce and Michael Oliver

With Summer 2023 in full swing and the Theatre in Community Series launched, we at Creativists in Dialogue have decided to mix things up a bit. We will alternate Creativists and Theatre in Community episodes. We will also repost some of our most popular Creativists episodes and experiment with some thematic interview composites of earlier posts.

With this in mind, this week Creativists in Dialogue reposts the interview that launched this podcast more than five months ago, the fabulous Joy Jones.

Joy is the author of five books. Her most recent is the Young Adult novel Jayla Jumps In.  She won the 2022 PEN Phyllis Naylor Grant for Children’s and Young Adult Novelists for her then work-in-progress, Walking The Boomerang. She has received fellowships from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, and is currently co-authoring a biography with Tom Adams of the couple that co-founded AA and Al-Anon, respectively, Bill and Lois Wilson; A Marriage That Saved The World,

Joy is also a playwright, an educator, a public speaker, a daughter, a Double-Dutch expert, and a dear friend.

Creativists in Dialogue Podcast
Welcome to Creativists in Dialogue, a podcast embracing the creative life, with your hosts Elizabeth Bruce and Michael Oliver. In this weekly podcast, we interview people from all walks of life about the role that creativity plays in shaping who they are. We explore creativity at both the practical level, and the process level.
We also, on occasion, delve into the philosophical dimensions of creativity—that might have influenced a person’s life and work.
Importantly, not all the people we interview are “Artists”—though some are—but they all live their creativity every day in their fields of expertise, their relationships, and beyond.
In other words, we approach creativity as a vital force to a healthy life. Not only does it change the world but it changes who a person is and how they see themselves.
