Today, we present Part 2 of our conversation with Sri Lankan-American poet, essayist, translator, and career diplomat, Indran Amirthanayagam.
Indran Amirthanayagam is a Sri Lankan-American poet, essayist, translator, and career diplomat whose prolific work spans English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole. His first book, The Elephants of Reckoning, won the 1994 Paterson Poetry Prize, and his poem “Juarez” earned Mexico’s Juegos Florales in 2006. A committed polyglot and cross-cultural artist, Indran has published over two dozen poetry collections, including Uncivil War, Powet Nan Po A, The Splintered Face: Tsunami Poems, and The Migrant States.
His translations have also introduced Spanish-language poets like Manuel Ulacia and José Emilio Pacheco to English readers.
